Clare Celeste brings thousands of hand cut images of flora and fauna together into lush and intricate compositions. Blooming with color, buzzing with insects, and brimming with foliage, the works are visually arresting and captivating.
The images come from natural history archives and most are pre-1900. Newer images are hand painted, photographed, or sourced from creative commons. For all tactile commissions, Clare Celeste’s images are printed on recycled 300 gram acid-free paper and hand cut.
Clare Celeste’s work is intricate and precise. The otherworldly and ethereal nature of the work is achieved through her attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Clare Celeste is commissioned internationally for her lush, handcrafted and immersive installations of flora and fauna. These full-room artworks invite the viewer into a fantastical ecosystem.
Created from hundreds of individually cut and arranged images, they are visually arresting and captivating. The installations are intricate, colorful, photogenic, draw in audiences of all ages, and create an unforgettable experience.
In the words of Frankie Magazine: "A floral paradise... We recommend taking your time perusing the images to fully appreciate the complexity."
Intimate Immensity, Installation 2016
Intimate Immensity is named after a quote from The Poetics of Space written by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard. Made in the tender first year of my son's life, it traces the poetic in intimate, domestic spaces.
